These plates are from the pottery at Sarreguemines, which was established in 1784. The company originally made only earthenware and later produced fine stoneware using unusual mixtures of clay. The products were a great success.
In the second half of the century a range of domestic wares was introduced with relief decoration in forms of leaves, vines and fish amongst others.
This is a rare service with details of the heads and tails are handpainted in slight marroon colour.
All the pieces are vintage, and unique.
Larger platter and saucer available in the same service.
Sold as a set of 11.
