Tablecloth "Toile de Jouy"

£240

'Toile de Jouy' is a decorating pattern which generally depicts fairly complex scenes, with pastoral theme such as a couple having a picnic by a lake or an arrangement of flowers.

The 'toiles' were originally produced in Ireland in the mid 18th Century, and became quickly popular in Britain and France, but the term 'toile de Jouy' originates in France in the late 18th century, referring to a French town in the south west suburbs of Paris called Jouy-en-Josas.

Made by the lovely Josiane in a small village in the Luberon, this great traditional pattern is timeless and is experiencing a marked upsurge in popularity all around the world.
